Stone Monkey by Jeffery Deaver

The FBI has recruited forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme and his protégée, Amelia Sachs, to capture “the Ghost,” a homicidal immigrant smuggler. But when they corner him aboard a cargo ship, the bust goes disastrously wrong and the Ghost escapes. Now the killer must eliminate two families who witnessed his flight before they jumped ship and vanished. . . . Searching New York City’s Chinatown, can Rhyme and Sachs find the Ghost’s targets before he does?

One of the best thing I like about a book is when the author does a good research about the setting and the characterization of his book. And Jeffery Deaver is one of my favorite author for the same fact. The Stone monkey is about chinese immigrants being smuggled into US borders and how one such shipment meets a different fate all thanks to Rhyme's intervention. He fails to save all the families but vows to not let the killer "Ghost" harm any of the two families who manage to survive the drowned ship. As all Rhyme series books , this book sets the surrounding and community of the people . You get to know all about Chinese traditions , their beliefs , the way they think and act , about limitations of each human as viewed by different ideologies and effects on any crime scene. The deductions about each evidence and the way it moves the story forward is simply a pleasure to read. Deaver is well known for the pace of his books and the twists he places all through the book. This book is no exception. A real page turner ! I personally loved the Chinese cop Sonny Li a lot more than any of Deaver's characters introduced in Rhyme series.

Roadside Crosses by Jeffery Deaver

Synopsis : A highway patrol trooper notices something strange on the side of the road: a homemade cross, fashioned as a memorial. Except the date being 'remembered' is the following day - the day the police find a kidnapped teenage girl in the trunk of a car, left for dead.

Special Agent Kathryn Dance, the kinesics expert with the California Bureau of Investigation, is on the case. The teenage victim points her to an online community where accusations fly and the criticism turns from impartial to personal - and vicious. It looks as though the bullying went too far, and one teen has finally snapped.

Then further crosses appear. Now Dance must race against the clock to find the attacker before he can carry out his deadly plans for revenge . . . in the cyber world and the real.

Click here for a preview of the book (via Google books ) .

Nimue Says : Kathryn Dance is an expert in kinesics, which is the study and analysis of body language. In addition to the contribution kinesics makes to the mystery in the novel at hand, it's interesting to learn about body language techniques since we can apply them to real life situations we face daily.

While I love the author , am a fan of his Rhyme series books , and even liked this character of Kathryn Dance , this book though does not reach that high.  It does not disappoint , but some where you know that the plot is throwing obvious twists. All through the book,I felt it strongly that the person chased is not the real culprit , but yes, who is the real killer was a mystery till the end (Thank Deaver for that ) ! One good thing about Deaver's book is that they are informative too. He likes to give details of the technology or scenario he uses as setting of the book. This one deals with blogs , games , online profiles and general security related to these. Trust me, that the facts and explanation are quite good. I atleast enjoyed those.

Also, most of the characters in the book apart from Kathryn need to be sketched a bit more in detail. Its not enough to imagine their ways and psyche accurately from the descriptions.

In all, a page turner indeed. You will get a good idea of Deaver if you haven't read him before. He still stays my fav thriller author .

The Burning Wire

- by Jeffery Deaver

Jeffery Deaver is MY FAVORITE AUTHOR !
There I said it ! So, whatever he writes, goes well with me ! And when he writes a Rhyme-Sachs book. O.M.Geee  ! I just loove these books.  And if you are a movie buff, And you watched "Bone Collector" ; thats based on the book with same name by Jeff Deaver and sure as much [ and little more] interesting than the movie.

Synopsis from the book cover :

Lincoln Rhyme is back, on the trail of a killer whose weapon of choice cripples New York City with fear. The weapon is invisible and omnipresent. Without it, modern society grinds to a halt. It is electricity. The killer harnesses and steers huge arc flashes with voltage so high and heat so searing that steel melts and his victims are set afire.
When the first explosion occurs in broad daylight, reducing a city bus to a pile of molten, shrapnel-riddled metal, officials fear terrorism. Rhyme, a world-class forensic criminologist known for his successful apprehension of the most devious criminals, is immediately tapped for the investigation. Long a quadriplegic, he assembles NYPD detective Amelia Sachs and officer Ron Pulaski as his eyes, ears and legs on crime sites, and FBI agent Fred Dellray as his undercover man on the street. As the attacks continue across the city at a sickening pace, and terrifying demand letters begin appearing, the team works desperately against time and with maddeningly little forensic evidence to try to find the killer. Or is it killers . . . ?
Meanwhile, Rhyme is consulting on another high-profile investigation in Mexico with a most coveted quarry in his crosshairs: the hired killer known as the Watchmaker, one of the few criminals to have eluded Rhyme’s net.
Juggling two massive investigations against a cruel ticking clock takes a toll on Rhyme’s health. Soon Rhyme is fighting on yet another front—and his determination to work despite his physical limitations threatens to drive away his closest allies when he needs them most . . .

And luckily, i found a part of the audio book i had, on youtube for you to check :

Nimue Says :
I already sad much about the book and the author ! And I still say more : Deaver writes the best forensic science thrillers. Lincoln Rhyme a quadriplegic detective, and Amelia Sachs together with the regular bunch of people they work with form one of the best teams. not to forget Thom, Rhyme's care taker who so gladly and efficiently puts up with Rhyme's moods all time. This one offers interesting information on electricity , a scary picture of its reach in our society and a brilliant sum up to what i think looked like end of Rhyme series [ fortunately it is not ]. Once you read a Rhyme novel, you are hooked forever, trust me ! Totally in control of the plot , amazing twists and a perfect rounding up of all ends are signs of deaver's brilliance !
Do read him !
