You almost know the end of the book before you begin reading, some might call it predictable or boring, but read it still to live the pain that others go through when we think selfish and act mean to our loved ones. some times you need to read such stories only to realize how fortunate our lives are and how much more courage we need to succeed in what we desire.
More than the book, I was touched by one of the personal experience mentioned by Sudha Murthy at the end concerning this book.

These things are still rampant. not only in India, in other countries too.. No matter how much we say we don't shun such behavior, peoples tendency towards inhumanity is unpredictable.
ReplyDeleteEven though we will do our part and nod our heads while reading this, most of us will think of it once or twice and then forget about it. We hardly make a difference and the people who suffer, suffers alone and fights alone.
If it can make difference in some one's life for even 1 day .. I will be glad about it .. And it does teaches you to be kind and tolerant atleast ..

ReplyDeleteit really does sound moving. it somehow reminds me of this book reading session i attended sometime back.
ReplyDeleteit was a novel by a bengali author n she'd also written about the plight of women- but the story is very different; it's about the life a widow.
i was moved to tears by the end of the session n for a few moments there was pin drop silence in the hall.
i m sure this book will also turn out to be as touching, thanks for sharing it, nimue :)
